Bike-borne youth snatch Rs 4 lakh in busy market

In a daring robbery on Friday, two bike-borne men snatched Rs 4 lakh from a retired airlines official in broad daylight.

The incident took place in Sector 14 on MG Road where more than 14 banks are located. According to the city police, Charanjit Singh, a resident of Sector 17, had gone to ICICI bank at 11am with his son, Sachin. He had withdrawn Rs 3.90 lakh from his account and wrapped the cash in a plastic bag.

The youth, wearing helmets, were riding a Pulsar bike with no number plate.

After receiving the complaint, the police immediately set up checkpoints to nab the accused, but the robbers managed to flee.

"We have received the bank's CCTV footage and the details of the cheque deposited. We are also scanning phone call records to get more leads," said Naresh Kumar, the Sector 14 police station in-charge.
