BMW case accused to give blood samples to police

A Gurgaon court on Friday allowed the police to take blood samples of Suraj Sehrawat, 19 - prime accused in the BMW hit-and-run case. Deevakar Anand reports.

A Gurgaon court on Friday allowed the police to take blood samples of Suraj Sehrawat, 19 - prime accused in the BMW hit-and-run case.

The samples will be matched with those taken from the air bags and seat covers of the car, which he was allegedly driving when it hit another vehicle killing two people including a pregnant woman, on May 5.Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Jasbir Singh directed Sehrawat to appear before the district Chief Medical Officer on Friday to give the blood sample which will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory at Madhuban near Karnal. He has also been asked to surrender his driving licence before the police.

The court, however, declined the police plea to conduct a test identification parade on him. CJM Singh said photographs of the accused have already been published in the press and "complete particulars are in the knowledge of the investigating officer (IO)."

The IO has also been directed not to share such dates with the media.

Asking Sehrawat to extend "full cooperation to the police in the probe", the court said, "Any lapse on the part of the accused in this regard shall make him liable for the consequences as per the law."

The police was also directed not to keep the accused in detention without any reason.
