Two lawyers on Thursday filed a private complaint in a city court against Shafiqur Rahman Barq (82), a Lok Sabha MP, who walked out of the House on May 8 when the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ was being played.

The complainants – Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, Gurgaon district general secretary of the BJP and Somender Singh – alleged that Barq, MP from Sambhal Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh, was guilty of bringing disrepute to the national song.
Barq should be “summoned, tried and punished in accordance with the law,” the two have prayed through their complaint filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Ravneet. Ravneet has transferred the complaint in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) Sukhpreet Singh, who will hear the case on Friday.
