A day after workers clashed with police, a total of ten people, including the contractor, at Orient Craft Limited Company situated in Sector 37, Udyog Vihar, were arrested on Tuesday.

They were produced before a local court which sent nine workers in judicial custody while the contactor got bail.

Trouble started when the contractor allegedly attacked workers with a sharp object following an argument.

Incensed over the incident, around 1,500 workers protested against the company management, demanding action against the contractor.

The accused were identified as Rajesh Kumar, Arjun, Rahman, Kuldeep, Rajkumar, Vinod Kumar, Sahib and two others and contractor Harender Sharma alias Lawli. The two workers, Mohammad Naseeb and Anil Kumar, who were assaulted by the contractor, are said to be in stable condition while one of them was discharged from hospital on Monday.

“Naseeb sustained a deep cut on his left hand which damaged his veins. He is still admitted in hospital and will be discharged soon. Anil had a minor scalp injury and was discharged on Monday night,” said Dr Ahmad Nisar of Sunrise Hospital.

“We have taken preventative measure and deployed a police team at the company to avoid any untoward situation,” said a senior police official.

An irate mob had pelted stones and set 20 bikes, two trucks, one SUV and one police gypsy on fire.

The police had to use force to disperse the crowd and around 15 workers and two police constables suffered injuries.

The police took nearly three hours to control the mob but the workers then took to the streets in Udyog Vihar and disrupted traffic movement.

“The mob set a gypsy belonging to ACP (traffic) Ravi Tomar on fire. They also pelted stones at police officers,” said Hamid Akhtar, DCP (south), Gurgaon police. Meanwhile, the company said it will not file any complaint against the workers.
