Dumping of animal carcasses resumes near DLF Phase 1

Residents have said dumping of animal carcasses has resumed in nearby Sikanderpur Ghosi

Residents of DLF Phase 1 have said that illegal dumping of animal carcasses has resumed in nearby Sikanderpur Ghosi area, leaving them to deal with the stench emanating from the bodies. Carcasses are being dumped in a four to five km radius of the area, they said.

After HT reported on the dumping of dead animals in Sikanderpur Ghosi, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) had in August removed the bodies lying near DLF Phase 1. However, local residents are again reporting dumping of carcasses in the area.

They added that this has become a regular practice now. “We complained about such incidents to MCG, Huda and forest department officials earlier as well, but none of the civic authorities are interested in solving the issue permanently. We are leading a miserable life because of the foul smell of the carcasses,” said Ravinder Yadav of DLF Phase 1.

Another resident, JS Walia, said, “For the last three to four days, we have been seeing dumping of animal carcasses again. We have informed the MCG and they have put some anti-bacterial solution on the bodies, but that is not a solution to our problems.”

Meanwhile, MCG officials said they are still working on the plan to establish an incinerator in DLF Phase 3, which will be run on compressed natural gas (CNG).

“We are waiting for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to come up for this long-pending project. We have already issued the tender for it,” said Amit Khatri, additional commissioner, MCG.
