Easy ride for slow-moving vehicles on expressway

Soon, slow-moving vehicles will not have to maneuver through the busy traffic on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway as construction work has begun on service lanes along NH-8 — from Rajokri flyover towards Palam Vihar.

The service lane will be constructed in three sections-- from Rajokri flyover (Samalkha turn) to the IOC filling station on the same road, from the Kapashera junction to Mahipalpur flyover, and from the place where the Mahipalpur flyover hits surface towards Palam Vihar.

National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials said the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had allotted the land in December last year and the contractor, Gawar Construction Ltd, has been told to finish the work before the onset of rain.

Sanjay Jain, proprietor of Gawar constructions, said, “It has been a year since we started work on this stretch and now we are nearly done. The service road will be two-lane, and in parts stretches having width from 5.5 metres to 10 metres. At some places it is 7.5-metre wide.”

The service lane would not just ease traffic snarls on the highway, but also render to-and-fro traffic between Delhi and Gurgaon safer.

In the absence of service roads, slow moving vehicles such as two-wheelers were compelled to maneuver through the fast traffic on the highway despite a ban.
