Endless wait for commuters at Signature Tower Chowk

While the district administration is planning infrastructure development like construction of flyovers and underpasses and road-widening projects, the stretch near Signature Tower is not in the scheme of things.

The traffic police claimed to have raised the issue with local civic bodies — Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) and Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) — to widen the roads and construct slip roads here. “We have asked Huda to remove faulty structures and unused drain covers,” said Bharti Arora, DCP (traffic).

Heavy traffic volume is another major cause of jams but it can easily be managed through slip roads, the traffic police claimed.

“There is a need to construct an underpass here and this issue has been discussed in several meetings,” said the DCP.

It was also observed that the road connecting the railway station in Old Gurgaon and Huda City Centre Metro station in New Gurgaon had the maximum flow of traffic, which has also been affecting vehicular movement on the expressway.

“I was going to Huda Gymkhana Club from Delhi but I was stuck at this crossing for more than 10 minutes. The slip road is damaged and the waiting time is too long,” said a commuter.

Besides, traffic signals at Signature Tower often stop functioning and this is a major cause of chaos and inconvenience. “At times, the signals do not show the stoppage time,” said another harried commuter, adding that there is an urgent need to upgrade road infrastructure and build slip roads, a flyover and underpass at Signature Tower.
