The step is being viewed as an attempt to filter out corrupt elements involved in the contractor-official nexus which often results in use of low-quality construction material and delays in completion of projects.

Speaking to HT, an executive engineer explained that he had submitted an affidavit to HUDA.

“It’s basically a certificate in which I have said that I have fully examined all the roads and prepared the estimates. And in future, if the roads get damage, I should be held responsible,” said the engineer, adding that such a thing has happened for the first time in the history of HUDA.

Roads such as Golf Course Road, Sohna Road and MG Road were allegedly constructed with poor quality materials.

In a meeting on Saturday, HUDA administrator Praveen Kumar met six divisional engineers and asked them to submit the affidavits before they submit estimates of the roads in their respective divisions.
