Expect snarls at Gurgaon’s Genpact Chowk as U-turn reopened

The U-turn had been closed last month and instead a U-turn was opened opposite the one horizon centre as a measure to streamline traffic movement on the junction.

Commuters are expected to face snarls at the Genpact Chowk on the Golf Course Road from Wednesday as authorities have reopened a U-turn at the heavily congested junction.

The U-turn gives access to vehicles coming from AIT Chowk and St Thomas Marg for switching lanes and head towards sector 55.

After taking the turn, vehicles struggle to steer their way out of the merging traffic coming from Sikanderpur, which leads to severe congestion at the spot where the width of the road is already significantly reduced owing to a construction of an underpass.

Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) officials stated that the change was enforced as the underpass’ construction is nearing completion. HUDA officials though declined to make any official comment on the matter.

DLF who is jointly undertaking road infrastructure projects along the Golf Course Road with HUDA also declined to give an official launching date for the DLF 5 underpass.

Owing to the underpass construction, the Genpact Chowk has been a commuter’s nightmare since July.

After a crane broke down at the junction on July 25, traffic flow on the Golf Course Road and arterial roads was disrupted for over two hours as the only lane was accessible for vehicle movement.

Before this, on July 5 and 6 in order to facilitate construction activities for the underpass, authorities had encroached a large portion of the main road which led to traffic flow being in disarray and prompted Gurgaon police to depute officials for regularizing movement.

Once the underpass is opened to public, the 8.3km road from Sector 55/56 to Shankar Chowk will become signal-free for motorists.
