The state government has designated the district hospitals of Gurgaon, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal and Rohtak, where treatment for haemophilia would be available. The government has already sanctioned R25,000 each for these hospitals.

According to Dr. Pankaj Abrol of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, a special centre at the hospital premises will serve as a referral unit for secondary or tertiary treatment of haemophilia patients from across the state.

Dr Abrol was addressing a Continuing Medical Education (CME) on Haemophilia organised by the institute’s pediatric department on Tuesday.

He said that patients under treatment outside the state like in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi or Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh could also get treatment from these hospitals. “A patient admitted in any hospital outside state is entitled for reimbursement of up to R80,000 in case of emergency. Doctors and paramedics of designated general hospitals would be trained at PGIMS,” Dr Abrol said.

Director of PGIMS, Dr CS Dhull, said that if a patient suffers from persistent bleeding for a long time in case of tooth extraction, injury or any cut, the child should immediately be taken to a specialist and get checked for hemophilia.

There are 290 hemophilia patients registered in the state.
