Environmentalists and residents will hold a film screening and panel discussion on Tuesday at Epicentre, a cultural hub in Sector-44, to protest the Mangar draft development plan (DDP) 2031.
A similar screening was held in June, the DDP having been released for objections by the Haryana government on May 17.
Journalist-turned-film-maker Ishani K Dutta will screen her movie “The Lost Forest” and “The Vanishing Lakes” at the event.
The film has been shot to highlight the depleting biodiversity in the Aravalis and garner support against the government’s plan for development.
The panel will include RP Balwan, retired conservator of forests (South), Gurgaon, S K Pande, former director general, forests, union ministry of environment and forests, Pradip Krishen, naturalist and author, Sarvadaman Oberoi of the think tank, Mission Gurgaon Development, Chetan Agarwal, independent environmental analyst and Tykee Malhotra, founder of the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Sanskara.
Villagers of Mangar not only attach environmental significance to the Mangarbani forests but also consider the groves sacred.
They regard the trees as guardian spirits and have preserved the unique biodiversity at Mangarbani so far.
