A fire broke out at the basement of a house in DLF Phase 1 on Friday around 11 am. No one was injured in the mishap, the police said.

According to officials of fire department, a short circuit could have triggered the fire. Heavy smoke billowed from the basement of the building, which was rented out as a warehouse for crockery and garments, officials said.
Seeing smoke from the building, local residents informed the fire department and it took them two hours to douse the flames.
The loss caused to the property has not been estimated and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, officials said.
“Timely action saved a majority of the stock of crockery. It seems a short circuit was the reason for the fire. But this has not been confirmed. One fire tender was pressed into service to douse the flames and, within two hours, the fire was put out,” IS Kashyap, a senior fire department officer, said.
Officials said all five fire stations in Gurgaon were on high alert ahead of Diwali.
