Additional deputy commissioner, Gurgaon, Vinay Pratap Singh said the time widow for opening the tender has been increased as interested companies raised some queries about the project.

Singh, who is the nodal officer for the project, said the date has also been extended so that good agencies with expertise can apply for the project.

“We want to provide ample time to good agencies for effective implementation of the project,” said Singh, who held a review meeting with the officials here on Thursday.

The total cost of the project, divided in three phases, is Rs 12,000 crore. The first phase, costing Rs 7,000 crore, will cover the DLF phases and some parts of Sushant Lok. The entire existing power infrastructure in the city will be replaced under the project.

The first phase will cover sectors 1 to 57, second phase sectors 58 to 115, and third phase will cover industrial area of IMT Manesar. Work on the first phase of the grid is expected to start by the end of this year.

After reviewing the progress of solar-based net metering scheme, Singh said the electricity department has received 54 applications in Gurgaon city, of which 12 low tension net meters have been installed.

The net metering scheme, aimed at promoting use of solar power, stresses that at least 5% power is drawn from renewable sources of energy. The government has made it mandatory for residential structures above 500 square yards and for all commercial and institutional premises. Through net metering, a user could even sell excess power to the grid.
