Fit Cop: This Gurgaon Police officer is a role model for his peers and civilians

Assistant sub-inspector Rajbir Singh Siwach, from Faridabad, recently won two gold medals in powerlifting and speaks on how he manages to stay fit despite his 24X7 job.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Gurgaon Police, Rajbir Singh Siwach says, “I can’t live without gymming!” The fitness-freak has recently won two gold medals for Bench Press (140 kg) at Bodysterone National Body Building Association’s Mr North India, in two categories — Newcomers and Masters. Hailing from Faridabad, the 37-year-old officer, with his 18.1 inch biceps and chiselled body, encourages his colleagues (policemen) to follow his footsteps.

Singh says that he has been garnering accolades from his peers for his undeterred enthusiasm towards fitness. He admits maintaining a fit bod is challenging for him. “People wonder how I take out time to work out despite being in the police department. My senior officers are appreciating my dedication to keep a fit body. When they see me, they specially come forward to shake hands, and with a keen inquisitiveness ask about my diet and work out regime. Many of them are inspired by me and say ki jab aap kar sakte ho to hum bhi kar sakte hai (They say when you can do it, then so can we),” says Singh.

Rajbir holds his gold medal, when at the office of the Commissioner of Police at Civil Lines in Gurgaon.

He recalls how tailors, who are accustomed to stitch uniforms for cops with paunches, get astonished seeing him in good shape. “When I get my uniform stitched, tailors achambit ho jate hain aur kete hain ki ‘Aapke jaise policewaale bahut kam aate hai. Sabhi ki to aksar tond nikli hoti hai (Tailors get stumped when I visit them to get my uniform stitched, as they say that most of the policemen who visit them have paunches) Wo bahut khush hoke wardi banate hain (They happily take my measurement to stitch my uniform). They may take time to stitch for others, but I get mine at the earliest possible,” he says with a smile.

For Singh, fitness is imperative but at the same time he refuses to compromise with his duty. “The duties bestowed upon me by the commissioner of police, Gurgaon, involve giving security to VVIPs. Main duty mein koi kami nahi karta, har suraksha dene ke liye tayyar rehta hoon (I ensure my duty never takes a back seat due to my passion for bodybuilding),” he says.
