Veer runs a tea stall in Sohna village and is presently undergoing treatment at the Gurgaon civil hospital.

“A three-member committee has been formed at the civil hospital after the victim claimed he was sexually assaulted by the police. The committee will examine him on Tuesday,” said Dr Sanjay Narula, senior medical officer at the civil hospital.

Police commissioner Alok Mittal said, “Veer was drunk and created ruckus at Ambedkar Chowk on June 22. A case was registered against him under Section 58 of the Excise Act. He was very abusive to my men. Veer was produced in front of the magistrate the next day and released on bail. He was also examined medically as it is mandatory for those held on charges of drunken driving.”

Mittal said that as the victim has levelled serious allegations, ACP (Sohna) and the SHO would be recording his statement in the presence of a doctor.

According to the victim, he was on his way home after shopping when he was stopped at a police barricade near the Sohna police post where he got into an altercation with some policemen.

Veer’s family alleged the fracas ensued after the police demanded money alleging that Veer was driving in a drunken state. His neighbour said that Veer had undergone a heart surgery a few months ago and could not have consumed liquor.

Ram Veer Singh, the victim’s brother, said, “When I went to the police station in the morning, my brother was all black and blue. He told me that three policemen had beaten him till they were exhausted and had inserted a baton in his rectum three times in the presence of the police post incharge.”

The victim was first taken to the Sohna civil hospital from where doctors referred him to the Gurgaon civil hospital. The condition of the victim was so serious that he had to be administered drugs in a car at Sohna hospital.

Parveen, the victim’s elder son, said, “I tried to give my father some water but I was shooed away by the police who threatened to cane me.”

Nihal Singh Dhariwal, a local BJP leader and an advocate, told HT, “We will meet the police commissioner. We are also planning to call a day-long bazaar bandh in Sohna to protest against this gruesome act.”
