The Gurgaon police’s summer internship programme, initiated to rope in youngsters to tackle cyber crimes, concluded on Saturday with an interactive session between the interns and police commissioner Alok Mittal.
The programme witnessed scores of participants from prestigious institutes such as IIIT-Allahabad, IIT-Delhi and BITS-Pilani. “This programme has broken a lot of popular but adverse myths about the police. They are doing a fantastic job on a day-to-day basis,” said Parichay Rai, a student of IIIT-Allahabad.
“I think working with the police would have been a great experience for the participants as they worked on a real-time basis, getting face-to-face with the actual world of cyber crime,” Mittal said.
CYBER PRODIGY
Anand Prakash, 22, is a computer science student at Chennai’s VIT University. Hailing from Rajasthan’s Bhadra, he is also a web application security researcher - someone who has mastered computer programmes.
Anand, who interned with the police in the programme, has been rewarded by several bigwigs as Facebook, Google and Dropbox for his work.
He has till date received $5,000 from Facebook, $200 from Google, $1,000 from Coinbase and $200 from Launchkey — a sum of nearly Rs 4 lakh.
