The design of the proposed straight underpass at Iffco Chowk for the Sukhrali-Sikandarpur traffic on NH-8 has not been approved yet due to its alignment problem with the surface traffic movement.

As per the design, the straight underpass was to start somewhere near the petrol pump towards the Sukhrali side and emerge somewhere near the ABW Tower on the other side.

A senior Municipal Corporation official of Gurgaon (MCG) told Hindustan Times that alignment of the underpass with the surface traffic movement near the ABW Tower was technically not possible. He hinted that the proposal for straight underpass may be rejected.

“We have not completely rejected the straight underpass proposal. We have rather suggested an alternate underpass plan,” the official said, adding that a U-turn underpass on NH-8 some 250 meters ahead of the Iffco Chowk, towards Shankar Chowk, was under consideration.

The final decision in this regard is to be taken on Tuesday.

The detailed project report of the underpasses, with an estimated cost around Rs. 800 crore, has already been submitted.
