Gurgaon: Mercury likely to touch 40 degrees Celsius by next week

The region is likely to experience a rise in temperature by two degrees Celsius by next week. The minimum temperature will touch 20 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 40 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The minimum temperature is already five degrees above normal. The maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 35.7 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 18.4 degrees Celsius.

“The region is expected to enter the summer phase early this year. Dust storms are likely to hit parts of the country soon. By next week, the maximum temperature will be 40 degrees Celsius with no sign of rain ahead. The region will most likely witness a heat wave early this season,” an IMD official said.

The Met department also said the monsoon is likely to be weak this year and it is a cause of concern for farmers.

The sudden spike in temperature has made life miserable for residents. Doctors have advised people to stay indoors as the number of dehydration cases reported in various city hospitals has increased. “Because of a rise in temperature, we are seeing an increase in the number of patients with dehydration issues. This problem occurs because of loss of fluids from the body. This is usually seen in cases related to diarrhoea, vomiting, excessive sweating and fever. The change in weather is aggravating such conditions,” Dr Rajesh Kumar, consultant, internal medicine, Paras Hospitals, Gurgaon, said.
