Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar made the announcement at a function in Karnal where he distributed assistive tools to disabled people on Thursday. Deputy commissioner (DC) of Karnal J Ganesan said the land under the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) will be transferred to the state department of social justice and empowerment on a 99-year lease.

“The complex will also have a special school, a social institution, home for children and an old age home for the differently abled. The department is expected to construct the building from its own budget,” the DC said.

Meanwhile, Khattar said the disability pension will be raised to Rs 1,400 from January. As per the BJP’s poll promise, the pension will be increased to Rs 2,000 in 2019, he said.

Khattar also said road accidents contribute to the population of differently abled and the state government was working to check the factors responsible.
