Sources in the vigilance department told Hindustan Times that although the probe is on, its ambit would now expand after HT came out with fresh revelations on the involvement of several serving and retired officers.

“If HT has such incriminating evidence, the department should source it as soon as possible. A team of senior sleuths will go to Gurgaon on Tuesday in this regard so that a concerted inquiry could be conducted,” a senior member of the team said requesting anonymity.

HT on June 7 had reported that several ex-servicemen belonging to the Army, Navy and Air Force — even those who have held ranks of lieutenant-general, brigadier and colonel — allegedly forged affidavits to acquire as many as 12 residential plots each under the plot allotment scheme for defence personnel.

Documents show that there were complaints against 36 retired defence officers who have allegedly obtained 124 such plots across Haryana. About 24 plots were allotted in Gurgaon alone. To get more plots, many officers had applied both in their names and their spouses’ names in violation of norms. Some even changed their names and forged documents, reveal documents.
