HT Impact: Workers fix potholes on Gurgaon’s Golf Course Road, commuters relieved

Officials had blamed the ongoing work for the DLF 5 underpass project for the poor state of Golf Course Road

Repair work started on a 500 m waterlogged-potholed stretch on the Golf Course Road that is leading to traffic snarls on Wednesday, a day after HT reported on the plight of commuters on the stretch.

Construction workers and heavy machines were seen on the spot carrying out repair work on Wednesday.

The stretch between DLF Camelias to Sector 53-54 metro station had degraded significantly following pre-monsoon showers over the past few weeks, leading to commuters jostling for space and taking over 25 minutes to cross the stretch during peak hours. Motorists slowed down as they hit the stretch, as they were wary of damage to their vehicles.

DLF officials declined to comment in the matter.

Earlier, officials had blamed the constant movement of heavy vehicles and machines engaged in the construction of the DLF 5 underpass for causing damage to the road’s surface.

However, sources in the Haryana urban development authority (Huda), which built the road jointly with the DLF, said that only ‘surface repair’ can be carried out until the underpass project is finished.

Nilesh Dayal, a resident of Nirvana Country who had to change his commuting route owing to the bottleneck on the stretch, said he hoped the stretch will be rendered motorable soon as it would then enable him to cut down on the additional 5km that he is travelling now.

“I was forced to alter my route owing to the congestion on the stretch, which is far longer but saves time.. I am glad that authorities have finally taken notice and started repair work. This will ensure that the drive on both sides of the Golf Course Road remains smooth,” Nilesh said.
