Huda knocks irrigation dept doors

Huda currently gets 70 cusecs of water from the irrigation department through the Gurgaon Water Supply Canal (GWSC) which doesn't run to its full capacity of 180 cusecs at present. "We hope to get 40 cusecs of water in a day or two. A meeting was held yesterday (Wednesday) and it was decided that we need to meet the city's water demand at the earliest," said Naresh Pawar, executive engineer, Huda.

The official, however, denied that the water crisis was as acute as it has been highlighted in the media. He alleged that the Huda was responsible for faulty distribution.

"People should realise that power failure has been a cause of faulty or erratic water distribution at Basai and the boosting stations at Sector 16 and 51. We are working on a power back-system up at these stations to maintain uninterrupted water distribution," said the official.

Meanwhile, officials of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam (DHBVN) and Huda have been at loggerheads over power shortage as the crisis has affected water distribution.

Huda claims to have been receiving less raw water through GWSC. And, its recently constructed 500-cusec NCR Channel is still not operational as the irrigation department has not agreed to release raw water from the Tajewala barrage.

The officials of Irrigation department, however, refused to comment on the issue.
