The Huda, on October 19 last year, had asked 26 marble shop owners to shift from Sikandarpur market to Sector 33/34, where the authority had allotted alternative plots for them in 2004.

The deadline of that notice expired on November 3, 2012. But the officials are yet to take action against them.

Many of the shops obtained stay from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, alleging irregularities in allotments of Huda plots.

"We cannot cancel their alternative plots at Sector 33/34 because the marble dealers in their replies (to show-cause notice) claimed that they have got a stay order from the high court court," said a senior Huda official.

The department had in November said that it would seek legal advice from experts before cancelling their plots in sectors 33 and 34. The Huda also admitted that the high court had granted stay to only a few dealers and not all of them.
