An HT team spotted a traffic police team at ‘exit 6’ near Iffco Chowk on Tuesday. The officials had stopped three vehicles — two trucks and a tempo — to challan them. No traffic cones or indicators were put up to divert traffic while checking was going on.

When the HT team enquired about it, the police said that imposing challans on the expressway was not against the law. However, they could not reply when asked as to why they don’t follow any safety measures before stopping vehicles.

“We are issuing challans as per law. This is a step to make the people follow lane driving on expressway,” said Bharti Arora, DCP (traffic) Gurgaon.

“When the Delhi Police conduct such activities they follow safety measures. Why don't they increase their presence at Rajeev Chowk and other areas instead of NH-8,” said a former senior Delhi traffic police official on the condition of anonymity.

Earlier, in a meeting of NHAI, Expressway operator Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL), the MCG and the Huda, Gurgaon police commissioner KK Sindhu said the authorities, toll operators, vehicles owners parking illegally along the NH-8 and Expressway will face legal action.
