When she went to file a complaint, the police allegedly questioned her character and detained one of her two cousins with whom she was staying. They also allegedly asked her to prove if they were really her cousins.

"Her cousins recently arrived from Manipur in search of employment. On Tuesday night, one of them came late and forgot to bolt the door. Around 5am, one of their neighbours entered their room and attempted to molest the victim," Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of the NGO North East Support Centre & Helpline, claimed.

Chandra said when she shouted for help, the accused hid in the bathroom.

"When a police team visited the house, the accused managed to run away. But instead of helping her, they asked about her cousins and asked her to prove their identity," said Chandra.
