Incomplete road widening irks South City- 2 residents

Residents of South City-2 and shopkeepers from Arcadia Market want the work to widen the road in front of the market expedited.

Residents of South City-2 and shopkeepers from Arcadia Market on Thursday met officials of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) and requested them to expedite the work to widen the road in front of the market.

The Huda began the road widening work in September. Apart from widening the road, foothpaths are also being constructed.

The shopkeepers said the work started nearly eight months ago but is still incomplete. They said the work has been suspended for want of funds.

The shopkeepers said despite South city-2 residents complaining to Huda officials many times about the situation, no action has been taken by the authority to expedite the work. The incomplete work is causing a lot of inconvenience, they said.

The road is dug up at many places and this causes inconvenience to the commuters. Commuters said the authorities have not even put up any board to inform them about the dug-up stretches.

“The authorities have not put up any board to inform the commuters about the digging on the road. This is very irresponsible. Last week, I met with a small accident while I was parking my motorbike in front of the market,” said Kapil Sharma, a marketing executive.

The open drains have become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and an unbearable stench emanates from here throughout the day, residents said.

Residents of South City-2 said they also requested the contractor to finish the work at the earliest.

“The contractor told us that he is helpless. He said he cannot restart the work till he gets the payment,” said Vikram Sharma, a resident.

Sources said it will take at least a month for the work to restart.

A Huda official said they have received the complaint and they will get the work completed on priority.
