Judge inspects decongestion measures

Acting on the direction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, a retired chief justice of the high court on Sunday inspected the Delhi-Gurgaon border toll plaza to study the steps being taken by the expressway concessionaire to decongest the toll plaza.

Accompanied by Huda administrator Praveen Kumar, ACP (traffic) Ravinder Tomer, NHAI and expressway officials, justice (retd) Mukul Mudgal remained at toll plaza for around one hour in the evening to inspect personally more toll plaza lines on both sides and other initiatives being taken by Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd to end congestion at the toll plaza.

The concessionaire was expected to put in place decongestion measures by Sunday evening as per the high court direction. “We have apprised the high court representative of the various initiatives that are being considered for decongestion of the toll plaza. These include 2x7 split tolling configuration on the Gurgaon to Delhi side, 2x6 split tolling configuration on the Delhi to Gurgaon side and the temporary eight lane tolling configuration on the Udyog Vihar road. Now, we await the court’s feedback in the next hearing which has been slated for Tuesday,” said spokesperson of DGSCL.

Meanwhile, members of a citizens’ group — Toll Hatao Sangharsh Samiti — staged a demonstration demanding the removal of the toll plaza permanently during the high court appointee’s visit. It has been alleged in the court that the commuters are struck at the toll plaza and have to spend a significant time to cross the jams.
