Lack of drainage facilities in area result in flooding of Sheetla Mata Road

Since the road is in a low lying area, water from Atul Kataria Chowk, Sector 14, and the ammunition depot flood the road.

Lack of drainage facilities is the sole reason for waterlogging in the area. Since the area falls under the 900-metre radius of the ammunition depot, the hands of the civic agencies are tied.

Every monsoon, the area is waterlogged since the existing drainage system does not have the power and capacity to suffice.

“There is no drainage system in place at the ammunition depot and, which leads to waterlogging,” said a senior MCG Official.

The flow of water from the ammunition depot to the Sheetla road has made matters worse and the drains are only sufficient to take load of normal sewage.

“The drains are overloaded and cannot handle water from two areas together,” said the official.

Residents of the colony have no access to basic facilities like clean drinking water and sewage. Gaurav Kumar, a resident of the area, said, “There is so much water that collects on the main road. The roads are dug and left unattended. Open sewers too are a cause for worry. They are the reason behind several health problems and children can also fall into them. Even autorickshaws refuse to drop passengers in the area.”

“The stretch is being repaired to fix waterlogging issue. Its incline is being placed higher for proper flow of water due to gravity and pipes are being inserted,” SS Rohilla, official spokesperson for the MCG, said.
