A high-level meeting was held between MCG engineers and RITES officials on Tuesday wherein they discussed the project’s feasibility.

The core agenda of the meeting was whether the flyover, to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 250 crore, would provide a signal-free drive on the stretch.

The engineers discussed the problem of traffic and zeroed in on the fact that the current traffic chaos was mainly due to poor traffic management and encroachments.

“The flyover will pass through thickly-populated areas and multiple junctions from different directions will merge under it. The percentage of commuters using the flyover is less compared to those who are expected to use the surface,” said a senior MCG official on the condition of anonymity.

The engineers said discussions were underway regarding the flyover project.

Sources said the MCG had sent the feasibility report to RITES about two months ago.

MCG commissioner Vijay Dahiya and chief engineer BS Singroha will hold a meeting in this regard on Friday.

Former MCG commissioner Sudhir Rajpal had sent the proposal to RITES to check the project’s feasibility.
