Mahi case: Plot owner’s anticipatory bail rejected

Mahi fell in the out-of-use borwell in Kho village near Manesar on June 20 and eventually lost her life.

The court of additional district and sessions judge Vikram Agarwal had on Thursday reserved his order on Tayal’s petition.

In another development, Himmat Singh Yadav and Satbir Singh — the contractors who allegedly dug the borewell -- have been sent to judicial remand till June 13.

They were arrested by the city police on Wednesday. Yadav is a private contractor while Singh is his aide.

Tayal, who is absconding, was booked on Sunday under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The city police have been conducting raids in the city and the adjoining national capital to nab him. Tayal moved his anticipatory bail petition on Wednesday, pleading not guilty. He argued through his lawyer Vishal Gupta that the borewell was not located on his property.

Gupta also argued there were as many as 200 borewells in the area which were dug in connivance with the local administration, but only his client was being singled out.

He accused the local administration of negligence by “not issuing a single challan so far”.
