The city’s cybercrime department has booked four persons for allegedly creating a fake digital signature certificate(DSC) of a resident of Sushant Lok 1. The police acted on a complaint lodged by the resident, who levelled charges of fabrication, fraud and cheating against the four people, including his estranged wife.

Sushil Kumar Sharma, a 44-year-old chartered accountant, stated in his complaint that on March 8, he received an official mail from the income tax department, stating that his DSC and e-filing password for the website had been updated successfully, neither of which had been initiated by him. He instantly raised an alarm with the department and a private firm associated with the department to certify digital signatures.

Presently, there are three options for resetting one’s e-filing passwords: by answering a secret question, by uploading a previous or a new DSC, via a one-time password(OTP), or by using an Aadhaar OTP.
