The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is all set to establish the city's first modern and hygienic slaughterhouse.

The Rs 53-crore abattoir will come up at a 1.5 acre plot in Sector 37, located along National Highway (NH-8) in the next one year.
The MCG plans to appoint an experienced consultant who has earlier designed and is maintaining a modern abattoir facility.
"By April 19, we will finalise the consultant," said BS Singroha, MCG chief engineer, who is heading the project.
The consultant will submit a plan in the next one-and-half months to the MCG which will float a tender for execution of the project.
"The timeline of completion for the abattoir is one year from work allotment," said the chief engineer, who held a meeting with officials on Tuesday, adding that the consultant will run the abattoir for a period of five years.
According to an official, Gurgaon's abattoir will be more or less on the pattern of Delhi's Ghazipur facility that has a capacity of slaughtering 3,000 goats.
The proposed abattoir will be slaughtering 1,000 goats/sheep and 1,000 poultry per shift.

"It was revealed that actual slaughtering of animals was far below the district's daily requirement," said a senior MCG official, adding that about 865 goats and sheep, 4,450 poultry and 18 pigs are being slaughtered in the district daily.
