The director general of state transport (Haryana), Arun Kumar, inaugurated the new fleet as the intra-city bus completed one year on May 5. The city bus service started with 32 buses last year.

The officer also flagged off a bus service on a new route that will ply from the Huda City Centre Metro station (Sector 29) to Badshahpur — via Sector 40, 41, Bakhtawar Chowk, Mayfield Gardens and Nirvana City. The addition of more buses will also increase frequency of buses on the Dhaula Kuan (Delhi)-IMT Manesar route.

Five more buses will be added to the Super Luxury Volvo service between Gurgaon and Chandigarh, Kumar said, taking the total number of luxury buses on this route to 20. Also, 48 staff quarters will be constructed at a cost of about R5 crore for drivers and conductors deployed on intra-city bus routes so that they don’t face difficulty in late-night shifts, added Kumar.

Apart from this, a plan to install GPS systems in city buses is in the pipeline too. This, however, will take another six months, Kumar said.
