Taking note of HT reports on the issue of touts ruling the roost at the transport office in Mini Secretariat, the Haryana transport department has decided to set up a number of facilitation centres for collection of applications for driving licence across the city on the lines of the passport issuing authority.

These centres would collect applications from driving licence seekers to do away with the long queues at the E-Disha Kendra, which is the only centre in Gurgaon where applications are received and processed.
Additional chief secretary (transport) Ramendra Jakhu told Hindustan Times on Thursday that his department “took serious note of the lapses in the driving licence issuing system in Gurgaon” and had decided to decentralise the application collection to start with.
“I was told about the HT coverage highlighting the issue of touts influencing the driving licence issuing mechanism on Thursday. Following this, we have decided to address the issue of long queues at the centre. We, therefore, have decided to reduce the waiting time for the applicants by setting up a number facilitation centres across the city on the lines of the passport issuing authority,” he added.
Jakhu said the proposed centres would be manned by an agency authorised by the transport department.
