Much-awaited ‘Tower of Justice’ in Gurgaon awaits high court nod

The Public Works Department (Buildings and Road) is awaiting the final nod of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Building Committee for the allocation of Rs 113.31 crore to execute the construction of the Tower of Justice in Gurgaon.

‘Tower of Justice’ is a building that will accommodate the entire judicial complex of the millennium city that has 40 judges at present and litigants ranging from 6,000 to 8,000 a day. Apart from this, 4,000 lawyers are practicing in the judicial complex, which is spread across three different buildings.

Although all the ground work has been completed by the PWD, the only hindrance is the delay of more than eight months by the building committee to allocate funds, said VK Sharma, executive engineer, Public Works Department.

Earlier, there were some roadblocks in transferring land that was in possession of the agriculture department. The matter was resolved in
February 2014 after intervention by the revenue department, earmarking land for the judicial complex.

At present, the judiciary includes one district and session judge, one district judge of family court, seven additional session judges, one additional chief judicial magistrate, one chief judicial magistrate and 29 magistrates and civil judges.

Vinod Rao, general secretary of District Bar Association, Gurgaon said, “We are also looking forward to allocation of funds and I am hopeful the building committee will finalise the matter soon. In view of influx of clients, there should be no further delay in executing the project to end all challenges in the judicial complex”.
