No venue for meetings, MCG shells out on rent

It has been over a year since the house of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) was formed, but the elected members are yet to get a permanent venue to conduct meetings. The corporation has held just seven sessions in the whole year — three of which were organised in rented venues.

The MCG spent Rs 38,000 on rent for the three meetings.

The last meeting was held on April 25 at the Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HSIIDC) auditorium in Udyog Vihar. The MCG paid Rs 35,000 for the venue. Before that, two meetings were held at John Hall and Rs 1,500 was paid for each meeting.

The municipal corporation meetings are usually held at the conference halls of Mini Secretariat and Gymkhana Club at Sector 29.

It has also come to light that the corporation has had to postpone the budget meeting twice as it could not find a suitable venue.

The MCG was originally scheduled to place its budget for 2012-13 on March 28 this year. In the absence of a suitable venue, the corporation had shifted the date to April 2 and subsequently to April 9.

“We have enough land around Vyapar Sadan at Sector 14 which is currently being used as a garbage dump. We have sent a proposal to the agency concerned. The blueprint for a new venue will be ready in the next two months,” said Yashpal Batra, senior deputy mayor.
