Notice to govt on appointing information commissioners

After hearing a public interest litigation seeking directions for filling up all seven vacancies of state information commissioners in Haryana, the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a notice of motion to the state government, seeking its reply before March 19.

After hearing a public interest litigation seeking directions for filling up all seven vacancies of state information commissioners in Haryana, the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a notice of motion to the state government, seeking its reply before March 19.

The Gurgaon-based petitioner, Aseem Takyar, submitted before the division bench headed by Justice MM Kumar that there are a total of 10 sanctioned posts of state information commissioners in the state. There is only one chief information commissioner and two information commissioners.

He said the Parliament while discussing the RTI Act-2005, didn’t prescribe the minimum number of information commissioners required at a given time. HTC
