Padmaavat violence: Karni Sena’s Amu sent to Bhondsi jail, he claims his life is in danger

Shri Rajput Karni Sena leader Suraj Pal Amu, who was sent to judicial custody by Gurgaon police on Thursday, claimed that his life was in danger and he could be murdered. He said this while being taken to Bhondsi jail on Friday afternoon.

Amu was detained on Thursday evening by the police under sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC — preventive arrest— as he has been in the forefront of agitation against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period dram Padmaavat. Amu was produced before the DCP, headquarters, Deepak Gahlawat who sent him to judicial custody till January 29 using his magisterial powers.

While getting into the police car for being taken to jail, Amu shouted to mediapersons outside Sector 56 police station, “My life is in danger and I can be murdered.”

He was hurriedly taken to the Bhondsi jail by the police team accompanying him.

To keep the media and followers of Karni Sena at bay, the police did not disclose the location where the hearing would be done by the DCP, headquarters.

While initially it was expected that Amu would be produced at the police commissioner’s office, it was conveyed that he was being taken to the police headquarters. But the hearing finally happened at the Sector 56 police station.

Another bail application is likely to be filed in the court on Saturday.

Kuldeep Singh, DCP (east), said Amu was taken into preventive custody to maintain law and order in the city. Sources indicated that the Gurgaon police was probing his as well as other leaders’ role in the violence in the district on Wednesday as there were strong hints that the violence was planned and executed in a professional manner.
