Heavy rain lashed Gurgaon on Friday, causing traffic jams and waterlogging in various parts of the city. Commuters said traffic moved at a snail’s pace on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and many internal roads in the evening due to the continuous rain and poor condition of the roads.

The rain started in the morning and continued throughout the day. The shower brought down the city’s temperature to 29 degrees Celsius, from 35 degree Celsius recorded the previous day.

“It took me 30 minutes extra to reach home from Sector 31. Roads, especially the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, were jammed due to the day-long rain,” said Aarti Narang, a daily commuter.

A resident of Sector 31 said, “Due to the rain and waterlogging, motorists were driving slow. The internal road was waterlogged, making it difficult for people to walk or drive on the stretch.”

Fearing jams on roads, Office-goers left their workplaces before the usual time.

“I did not want to get stuck in traffic and so I left the office around 4.30 pm when the roads are comparatively less congested. But I had to face jams then also,” said Urvashi Pande, a resident of the city.

“Traffic moved at a slow speed due to rain. We are trying our best to manage the situation but snarls in Delhi also have a ripple effect on city roads,” said a police official.

Waterlogging was reported from many localities, including Sector 4, 10, 15, 31, 40, 45, 56, 57, areas of DLF, Sushant Lok and South City.

“Many internal roads were waterlogged, especially the South City market road. The road has potholes that make the stretch very difficult for drivers,” said SK Joshi, a resident of South City 1.
