Road cave-ins and collapse of the drainage system, which led to severe waterlogging in the city, has yet again raised questions on the tall claims of the civic agencies and their lack of preparedness to deal with the monsoon season.

On Wednesday, the city received rainfall between 16.3mm and 25mm, according to the meteorological department.

HT received three complaints of road cave-ins in west Gurgaon from New Colony, Palam Vihar and Sector 10.

At New Colony, the stormwater drain and a 12-metre stretch of a road gave way. As a result, people were forced to stay indoors as knee-deep water gathered outside their homes.

"The road and the drain beneath collapsed. My car got stuck and I had to call the municipal corporation enforcement team to pull it out," said Hemant Kumar, a resident of New Colony.

In Palam Vihar, near Rizangla roundabout, the road caved in.

Residents fumed over the lax attitude of the government and Gurgaon administration.
