With the festival season going on, the Gurgaon police have tightened security in the city to give residents a sense of safety.

The police have deployed personnel and police control room (PCR) vans at places that witness large crowds — major traffic intersections, malls and markets.

All station house officers (SHOs) have been issued instructions to ensure that the PCR vans in their respective jurisdictions should go on patrolling and not simply stand outside police stations.

Police official said all security arrangements have been made with the existing strength of the force and no extra personnel have been sought from any other district.

The Gurgaon police have 54 PCR vans, 50 motorcycles and approximately 4,000 personnel.

In view of the festival season, the city is hosting several events such as exhibitions, cultural programmes and music concerts.

These functions have been attracting a lot of crowd to various spots in the city like Sector 29, Cyber Hub, MG Road, Epicentre in Sector 44 and Ambience Mall.

Also, markets have been witnessing a higher footfall due to the festive season.

Security in all these areas has been tightened.

Gurgaon police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said no extra security personnel have been sought from any district. Strategies have been made so that more areas can be covered, he said.

Residents, meanwhile, have appreciated the efforts of the police.

“I saw three PCR vehicles around Sector 29. The vans were keeping a vigil in the area. This has instilled a sense of security in us during the festive season,” said Jalpreet Bali, a resident of Sector 31.

The residents said they feel more secure with the presence of policemen around them.

“Many festivals are coming up one after the other and people are excited. This is also the time when security threats increase. I think now that the police are making their presence felt, it will boost the confidence of the people in the city,” said Colonel Johri, a resident of South City 1.
