A city court on Friday sent Suraj Chaudhary, the husband of ace shooter Varsha Tomar, to 14 days’ judicial custody. The shooter had accused him of barring her from taking part in sporting activities over the issue of dowry.

A case of dowry harassment, criminal intimidation and criminal breach of trust was registered against Chaudhary and his mother at the DLF City (Phase 1) police station on a complaint by Tomar on Wednesday.
A resident of Noida, Chaudhary was arrested the same day.
Chaudhary’s lawyer Mahaveer Singh said that his bail application will be moved in court on Saturday.
Tomar, who has participated in 34 national and international shooting events and won eight gold, five silver and 15 bronze medals, said she was forced to stay home for several days and not allowed to go for practice sessions.
According to the police complaint, Tomar married Chaudhary, a native of Uttar Pradesh and a Noida-based lawyer, in December 2011.
