Students, denizens vent out anger

The outpouring of anger over the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old paramedical student continued on Wednesday with nearly 150 students of government college, Gurgaon, staging a protest on the college premises.

Slogans of “shame” reverberated on the campus as students, holding placards in their hands, began their two-hour protest in the morning.

“We will not accept this exploitation anymore. Rape cases have been on the rise and nothing is being done to address the issue,” said Nikita Saini, first-year student of the college.

Demanding that the guilty be brought to book at the earliest, the students expressed concerns over the safety of women. “We don’t feel safe in Gurgaon. Why is it that we have to protect ourselves when we step out but men can do whatever they want to,” said Purnima Gaur, a second-year student.

Meanwhile, city denizens also expressed outrage on social networking websites. Members of the Facebook group — Gurgaon Moms — vent out their fury on the group’s page.
