Two cops probing domestic violence case beaten up by man, brother

Two policemen on night duty, who were attending to a complaint of domestic violence in Farrukh Nagar on Wednesday night, were allegedly assaulted and beaten up with a helmet by a man and his brother. One of the policemen suffered injuries to his face and head. One of the two suspects was arrested on Thursday.

The police said the incident took place when special police official (SPO) Ajit Singh and police constable (rider), Sitaram, who were on night duty, received a call from a woman in Alimudinpur village, who said that her husband was assaulting her under the influence of alcohol.

Rajender Singh, assistant sub inspector (ASI), said the woman had called the helpline number and when the SPO was taking down the information from the woman, her husband intervened and started taunting the policemen.

“He was under the influence of alcohol and said that he was not bothered by the police. When the police officer tried to reason with him, he called his brother and both of them started assaulting the police constable. One of the suspects hit the constable with a helmet. The other police officer intervened and grabbed the woman’s husband,” Singh said.

Singh said the police constable had injuries on his face and head but was stable.

A case has been registered against the two suspects under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code at Farrukh Nagar police station on Thursday, the police said.
