“So far, the process of deck installation has been completed but shades on top and side grills and ramps are yet to be put in place,” said an official of the public works department (PWD).

“This work will be completed in a fortnight,” the official added.

But according to the locals, the work will be over by next month only. The commuters were hopeful that the FOB will be functional by June 25 as the deadline was set by the department itself a long time back.

“The PWD official had told us that it will be operational by the end of June. Pedestrians have been facing problems in crossing the busy expressway,” said Subhash Pradhan, a local resident who has to cross the expressway daily to reach his work place.

“We are closely monitoring the work and hopefully in a fortnight, it would be ready for pedestrians,” said NK Tomar, executive engineer, PWD.

The work on the FOB had begun on December 17 last year.

The expressway cuts across the villages, factories and other commercial establishments engaging tens of thousands of local workers who either use bi-cycle or walk across the expressway to reach their work places.

Several accidents have taken place on the expressway due to lack of a proper crossing facility for the pedestrians.
