Though a plan was mooted in July to convert a six-acre site in Phase 5 into a temporary parking lot, which could accommodate nearly 1,000 cars, it is yet to materialise as the matter is still pending with the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation’s (HSIIDC) head office in Panchkula.

After sitting for nearly eight years on a proposal to build a 4,000-car capacity multi-level parking adjacent to HSIIDC’s Gurgaon office, officials had started making plans to convert the allocated site into a temporary parking area.

However, senior officials now claim that the plan cannot be executed due to narrow exit and entry points around the site.

The six-acre site comprises the initially identified four-acre land for the multi-level parking lot and the adjoining two acres earmarked for a park.

With the city’s industrial hub grappling with severe traffic congestion — nearly 50,000 vehicles daily come in and go out of the area — the temporary parking lot will provide substantial relief to commuters.

The area houses nearly 1,250 industrial units, including large IT companies, besides two five star hotels.

Sites under the “best use plan” are assessed by consultants to be identified for use which could be of optimum benefit. To make a temporary parking, the site has to be cleaned and levelled as it is currently covered with shrubs. In July, the HSIIDC was to float a tender to prepare the parking lot which as per senior officials, was to have a granular sub-base and entry and exit gates.

“If the plan is approved, the temporary parking lot will cost around Rs. 25 lakh,” said a senior HSIIDC official.

Earlier, the HSIIDC had planned a parking project extending up to 1.5 km over the Nathupur nullah between Phase 5 near NH-8 and the Old Delhi Road near Jwala Mills.
