The incident has taken place ahead of the chief minister’s visit to the hospital for his grievance redressal meet scheduled for next month.

Sources said that the chief minister’s office has also issued a direction to deputy commissioner TL Satyaprakash to get the maternity and gynaecology ward of the hospital fixed within 180 days.

A small portion of the ceiling fell next to the bed bays.

The woman and her baby, residents of Sector 30, were discharged after being administered first-aid, said a senior official at the hospital.

The woman, identified as Moni, suffered injuries on a shoulder, while the baby girl, born two weeks ago, suffered bruises on the face.

Around 15 people, including patients, doctors and support staff, were present in the gynaecology ward at the time of the incident.

According to the senior official of the hospital, the incident took place around 10:45am.

Dr Ramesh Dhankar, chief medical officer of the hospital, said, minimal harm was caused to the patients and the staff acted swiftly, transferring the patients to another ward.

“The staff took swift action and shifted the patients, thereby ensuring that the area is secure. Harm to patients was minimal. Contractors are on the site and are carrying out the needed repair work. We hope that we will be able to reopen the affected ward at the earliest,” he said.

Civil Hospital is the oldest government hospital in Gurgaon. Several flawed construction-related incidents have been reported from the facility in the past as well.

On April 11, two patients were injured when the ceiling of the emergency ward collapsed. Last year, in a similar incident, the ceiling of the maternity ward collapsed and the department is closed since then. In September 2014, a woman suffered minor injuries when large chunks of cement fell on her bed in the maternity ward.
