In this email interview, the
expresses his willingness to be part of the Hindi film industry. He also talks about the potential of Indian actors when it comes to making a mark in Hollywood.
You have a massive fan following in India. When can we see you in a Bollywood film?
As soon as I get a good script and, a good and interesting director… I mean, I’ve worked all over the world already. I would not mind working in Bollywood.
There is an increased awareness among the youth about Hollywood films. Do you think American movies pose a threat to Bollywood releases?
They are both very different types of cinema. What’s amazing about your country is that you have an extraordinary movie industry. You do over 700 movies a year. I mean, I don’t think there was ever a year when America made 700 movies. It is really amazing, if you think about it. So they both stand their own ground. We don’t aim to compete. We aim to please.
Several actors from Bollywood are trying to make a mark in Hollywood. Do you think they can develop a fan base in the west?
Definitely; why not? It’s all about the talent and dedication to the art. As long as they do a good job and succeed in impressing the audience, they can surely attract a fan following.
What kind of expectations do you have from the Indian market for your upcoming film?
I have a lot of expectations, not only from the Indian market, but from all markets. I want my movie to appeal to the masses. I want people of every age group to enjoy the movie. And this movie is a little different from my regular movies, so I expect a great response.
Sabotage is an action drama, the genre you are popular for. What kind of response are you expecting from your fans?
I think audiences will be surprised because it’s kind of an unusual movie. It has different kinds of dimensions. A lot of times when people go and see an action film, or I should say a Schwarzenegger movie, they think they’ll get to see some action. They go away satisfied with the action, the shootouts, the stunts and the special effects. But then, they are always surprised because there’s something extra in those films.
What appealed to you about your character of John ‘Breacher’ Wharton in the film?
It was a package of things that interested me, and that’s why I signed on to be part of the team. I also liked the idea that it was an ensemble piece, that there were many talented actors and actresses that I was surrounded by in the movie.
Apart from Sabotage, your upcoming films Terminator: Genesis and The Expendables 3 are also much anticipated in India. Are you planning to come down to India to promote them?
I love coming to India. I’ve been there once, and if my producers and the PR team allow it, I would love to visit again.
