She might have played the titular role in the hit comedy Bad Teacher last year, but actor Cameron Diaz plays a dramatically different character in her latest release, What to Expect When You’re Expecting.
Having released in India last Friday, the film, which is based on the pregnancy guide of the same name, stars Diaz as Jules Baxter, a celebrity fitness girl, who accidentally gets pregnant. Talking about her role, Diaz, 39, says, “She is a very self-sufficient person who just met her partner and they haven’t had the time to make decisions with one another. They realise someone has to compromise. They are deciding on what is best for the child but they also have to know that this is a partnership that’s going to go on for a long time. So there is a reason these two people came together. They are meant to make one another better, they are meant to challenge on another.”
Since the film is about five different ladies who are going through a pregnancy and how they deal with it in their own ways, one would expect that it is mainly targeted at women. “No. The stories aren’t given to the audience just from the perspective of the mother and what she’s going through, but also what the father has to go through,” says Diaz.

Apart from Diaz, the film also stars actors Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Brooklyn Decker, Dennis Quaid, Matthew Morrison, and Chris Rock, among an ensemble cast.
