Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel has made Rs 56 crore in India in its first week, and Rs 3800 crore worldwide.

Captain Marvel has made Rs 56 crore in its first week at the Indian box office. The film had opened to Rs 48 crore in its first three days. According to a BoxofficeIndia report, the film’s earnings dropped steadily during the week.

The film made Rs 3.15 crore on its seventh day, taking its total to Rs 56.25 crore. Worldwide, the film had opened to a mammoth $455 million in its first three days. The film’s current total is $550 million, taking the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s all-time gross to $18 billion.

The film has braved mixed to positive reviews to post the sixth largest opening weekend numbers of all time. The film’s Rotten Tomatoes consensus reads, “Packed with action, humour, and visual thrills, Captain Marvel introduces the MCU’s latest hero with an origin story that makes effective use of the franchise’s signature formula.” The film sits at a 79% rating on the review aggregator.

Previous Marvel films such as Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War have also been massively successful in India, with the latter making more than Rs 250 crore in its theatrical run.

Captain Marvel ends with a brief tease of the central character meeting the likes of Captain Marvel and Black Widow for the first time. The film is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and also stars Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou and others.
